In 1918, two innovative Japanese naval engineers, Ryosuke Namiki and Masao Wada, faced a significant challenge while working at sea: the fountain pen, an essential tool of the time, would often rust due to the salty environment. Driven by a need for a reliable writing instrument, they developed a fountain pen with a stainless steel nib, marking the birth of the first PILOT pens.
